Liu v. University of Miami

No. 13-22187-CIV, 2015 WL 5997069 (S.D. Fla. Aug. 28, 2015). The Firm represented a private university in a wrongful termination lawsuit brought by an assistant professor who was denied reappointment. The professor alleged multiple claims under federal and state law: that she was discriminated against on the basis of her race and national origin; that she was retaliated against for complaining about discrimination; and that she was retaliated against for requesting and taking medical leave. The Firm obtained summary judgment on all claims, successfully arguing that the bulk of plaintiff’s claims were administratively barred and that there was no evidence to support any claim of discrimination or retaliation. That decision was affirmed by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
